Mandelbrot Lake is an interactive graphics program that lets you explore the Mandelbrot Set -- in 3D.
The Mandelbrot Set is the quintessential fractal structure. By performing a calculation on points in the complex plane, one can generate its signature (yet ever-intriguing) recursive patterns. >
"Classic" Mandelbrot 2D viewers draw the Set's boundary with a color palette or gradient, but what I have done in Mandelbrot Lake is to render it projected into the 3rd dimension.
(For a complete description of the Mandelbrot Set, please refer to wikipedia)
Currently, the viewer has only been implemented for Windows XP. DirectX 8.0 is required. The application is mouse-driven (dragging for horizontal/vertical motion, zooming with mouse wheel, etc).
